Community Internet presence

IREI is currently helping the Nukuoro community develop their website. Nukuoro is one of the only two culturally Polynesian islands in Micronesia, and one of the more isolated atolls in the western Pacific. When our Nukuoran friends asked for help with building their website, we immediately registered the www.nukuoro.org domain and started brainstorming. We are still working on the content, as advised by our Nukuoran friends, and hope to have the website operational soon. The goals of the website project are to develop it as 1) an internet meeting point for Nukuorans at home and in the diaspora as well as a 2) presentation of Nukuoro island and culture for the global audience. Some of the content will include environmental, cultural and historical information about Nukuoro, maps of the islands, photographs, news from the island, and even an on-line shop selling handicrafts and the amazing Nukuoro black pearls.
